Vehicles in Bulgaria

If you wish to bring a vehicle with you on arrival it is not a problem, you can drive it in Bulgaria under you English insurance and MOT without any problems. You will of course need to purchase need to purchase Bulgarian road tax (VINETE) when entering the country. Please remember the vehicle is still governed by the same rule as if you were in the UK. You must still SORN the vehicle if its off the road for a time. You must still acquire English ROAD TAX even if you are abroad or when tou arrive back home with the vehicle you will have fines to pay.

If you wish to change the vehicle over onto Bulgarian Plates and import it into Bulgaria. The V5 must be present the engine is checked for a VIN number and its recorded and produced within the new vehicle Documentation. You must get the vehicle insured at least 3rd party cover. The vehicle is check and issued a MOT as part of the registration.

NOTE

The insurance applies to the vehicle meaning that any number of persons can drive it with legal cover unlike the UK where its the person that is insured and unless otherwise stated it is limited to the same.

You may use the vehicle back in the UK without the need to purchase road tax or additional insurance.

Please note the vehicle registration Document will have a expiry date on issue, the is note to be the same as you Passport, when you passport expires and a new one is issued the same will apply to the documentation.
